FDP on ‘Computer Vision and Video Analytics’

Faculty Development Program onComputer Vision and Video Analytics was conducted from 14th to 18th December 2015.The objective of this course is to update the knowledge of young teachers and researchers about Computer Vision and Video Analytics and for exchanging and sharing the recent developments in computer vision and video analytics  and their applications in several areas.

Computer vision is the discipline of “teaching machines how to see.”Computer vision is a field that includes methods for acquiring, processing, analyzing, and understanding images and, in general, high-dimensional data from the real world in order to produce numerical or symbolic information, e.g., in the forms of decisions. Computer vision accomplish this through the a series of tasks like Object Pattern recognition, Identification, Detection, Content-based image retrieval, Pose estimation, Optical character recognition, 2D Code reading, Facial recognition etc. Computer vision covers a gigantic application area which includes automatic medical diagnostic systems, navigation, industrial automation, machine vision, military applications, autonomous vehicles, unmanned aerial vehicles, unmanned land vehicles, space technology and many more.

Video Analytics” is typically associated with analysis of video streams captured by surveillance systems. Video surveillance systems are typically installed to record video footage of areas of interest within a facility, around its perimeter or in outdoor areas which require observation, with a view to “catching” (allowing the user to be able to observe) and recording events related to security, safety, loss prevention, operational efficiency and even business intelligence.

The course is arranged in a series of informative lectures on various aspects ofComputer Vision, Feature Extraction, Classification and Recognition, Machine Learning, Content based Video Retrieval, 3D Reconstruction, Deep Learning, Genetic Algorithms and Open CV and Python.

The resource persons constitutes experts/senior faculty members and various guest speakers fromreputed institutions including IISc.Faculty Members, Research Scholars and PG students from Academic and Research Institutions attended the course. The participants were benefited immensely and get new insights and knowledge about the topic through close interactions/discussions with the Senior Faculty.
