The policy of the institute infrastructure is formulated and implemented by an infrastructure committee constituted by the management.  The committee ensures a uniform and balanced distribution of space and resources to all categories/departments and also to provide and maintain necessary amenities to staff and students in a time bound manner.  The committee plans and designs classrooms, faculty rooms, labs etc., complying with the standards stipulated by AICTE.  For addressing the common infrastructural facilities of the institute, requirements of all the departments and campus landscaping, twelve subcommittees have been formulated to design and execute the same.

Total land area is 16 acres and built up area is 31470 sq.m. The infrastructure required for each department is designed and placed in close proximity (zoned together) to ensure efficient teaching-learning process.

The class rooms, laboratories, Central/Department library and seminar halls are the venues of academic activities in our departments. The following steps delineate the process of maintenance and repair of these infrastructure facilities.

  • Facilities Management Committee of the college are responsible for the maintenance and repair of all infrastructure
  • Cleanliness of campus and building is maintained by a team of permanent sweepers in addition to outsourced man
  • Classrooms are cleaned every day. Maintenance of system and accessories is monitored by administrative staff of the

  • The faculty in charge and Laboratory Instructor supervise the maintenance of laboratory equipment and propose the budget for the consumables and new equipment.
  • Technical staff maintains the log book for usage of equipment of the
  • Preventive maintenance schedules are prepared under the guidance of faculty- in-charge.
  • A programmer/technical staff and a faculty in charge of each computer laboratory are responsible for maintenance of systems and
  • A faculty member and a technical staff in charge of the department library maintain the volumes that are borrowed and
  • A System Administrator is in charge of the management and distribution of internet facility, administration of all computers inside the college, maintenance of wired and wireless infrastructure, college website etc. A team of two technical staff assists the system
  • A faculty member, instructor and supporting staff are responsible for the maintenance of power supply in the campus
  • Regularly cleaned and maintained bore wells and open wells meet the water requirements of the campus
  • Routine cleaning of water tanks, coolers and filters are carried out as per fixed schedule.
  • Sanitary maintenance is executed by external sanitation companies on contract

Medical Facility

The service of the campus doctor, Dr. S. Muneer is available in the college from 10.30 am to 5.30 pm on all working days.

Transportation Facility

Drinking Water

  • Groundwater from lateritic aquifer is the main source of drinking water in the college campus.

Class Rooms are provided with good ventilation, high speed LAN Connection, multimedia projector, white/black/green board, notice board and electronic podium.

Seminar Halls / Conference Halls: The Jubilee hall, PTA hall, Lecture theatre and APJ Hall are air conditioned, well furnished with most modern audio-visual systems. The audio visual facilities are digitally enhanced and designed for effective presentations with excellent auditory reception.  Jubilee hall has a seating capacity of 250, APJ hall 180, PTA hall 90 and Lecture theatre 100. Other seminar halls are well furnished with LCD projector and audio visual aids.

Central library: Central library has a collection of more than eighty five thousand books and one hundred periodicals, e-resources of 3000 e-journals and 4600 e-books, 5400 NPTEL videos and 1500 CDs. The working time of college Central Library is from 8am to 8pm.

Language Lab: The language lab is provided with ETNL software which helps the students to improve their communication skills. Students can utilize the lab facilities beyond regular working hours.

Internet Facility:

  • 100 Mbps (1:1) high speed leased line facility along with a 10 Mbps broad band connection.

Amenity Centre
There are separate amenity centers exclusively for women students and men students, named Ladies Centre and Gents waiting room. These are to be used strictly separately and only during interval and free time on working days. Discipline is to be maintained, and any activity other than permitted indoor games is prohibited. Care should be taken to keep the room and furniture neat, order and in good condition.

Placement : Training & Placement Cell

The Training & Placement Cell of the college is working as a team under the leadership of the coordinator Dr. B. Sunil Kumar. The team consists of the committee members from each department and a group of dedicated students. The Cell pay extra effort to invite reputed companies over the campus and extends due hospitality to make them comfortable in the campus. The cell helps a large number of students to secure employment in reputed organisations through campus recruitment. The cell also helps students in arranging vacation training and project work for them in industries. The T&P Cell arranges periodic training and Personality Development programs.

Guidance : Career & Guidance Cell

The Career Guidance Cell works in liaison with Training and Placement Cell. It imparts training to the students in order to help them perform creditably in competitive examinations, interviews, and group discussions. The Cell also conducts entrepreneurship awareness camps and supervisory development Programmes for the students.

Industry Institute Interaction Cell
An Industry-institution interaction cell is functioning in the college to facilitate greater collaboration of the Institution with the neighboring industrial establishments. Continuing Education Programmes for working professionals are also arranged.

Stationary : Co-Operative Society
The Co-Operative society has been established with the object of helping its members in the purchase of books, stationary and all other general requirements, at moderate rates. All the students and members of the staff are eligible for membership in the society. The society will be kept open on all days between 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. except Sundays and other notified holidays.

Banking : SBT ATM

An ATM of State Bank of Travancore is functioning inside the campus. The facility is really helpful to  students and staff for efficient banking transactions.

Postal: TKMC Post Office

The  post Office is functioning very close to the campus. All postal requirements will be served by this model post office. The working time is 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Canteen: TKM Engineering College
A canteen is functioning inside the campus with the objective of providing quality catering facilities for the students as well as members of the staff, at moderate rates.

The Counseling Centre
The College has also a Counseling centre to help the students out of their problems, personal, psychological, religious, financial and so on. At times psychological problems arises as a result of academic strain and stress, which required considerate and understanding consultation and counseling. This is provided by a counselling psychologist, Mrs. Kalashibu. . To get the services of counseling Centre, the students can directly contact the psychologist or any member of the staff, anytime, anywhere.

IEDC: The institution has an Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Cell (IEDC) which organizes entrepreneurship awareness programs for the students. The efforts of the institution and its impact can be seen in the swift setting up of a very professional workspace – the IEDC room, the Fab Lab and Makers Space for young entrepreneurs. The other labs and workshop facilities can also be utilized by the students for their non-academic projects.

IEDC is divided into three sections

  1. Makers Forum – revolves around Maker’s Space, a workspace that is integrated with the Fab Lab installed in the college having all facilities and resources required for a student to experiment on innovative ideas and make use in their DIY projects.
  1. Innovation and Research Cell -foster innovation and research among students by conducting brain storming sessions to evolve solutions for challenging design issues in practical domain.
  1. Open Source Software Community- a collaboration of IEDC and young free software enthusiastic developers in the college. The main objective is to provide a platform for students to learn more about the systems, to make them feel comfortable in handling the free and open source software by promoting code literacy and open source software within and outside the college.

QEEE: The College is one among the 100 Engineering Colleges participating in the Quality Enhancement in Engineering Education (QEEE) Programme of MHRD, Government of India. After successfully completing Phase I and Phase II, Phase III started in January 2015. Under this programme, facilities have been arranged for the Live Classes conducted by Professors of various IITs. The main goal of the program is to utilise high quality pedagogical resources to enhance learning in a wider student community.

Specific Student Support/Facilities

  1. Students from SC/ST, OBC and economically weaker sections

The students who belong to SC/ST, OBC and the economically weaker sections are identified and are given all central and state government scholarships available. Separate SC/ST Book bank is available in the library. Contributions are also provided by faculty members of the college for economically weaker students. Alumni association and PTA also provide scholarships for students from economically weaker sections.

  1. Students with physical disabilities

The campus environment is friendly to the physically disabled candidates. Special   encouragement, guidance and care are given in studies and practical sessions. The college allocates classes for the physically disabled students in the ground floor of the main building. Ramp facility and wheel chairs are provided inside the campus. Examinations are arranged in the ground floor. Extra time is provided for university examinations as per university norms. For getting better audibility smart class rooms are provided.

  1. Overseas students

International students hostel facility is provided for the students joining the institution from abroad. This facility is maintained with very high standards. Students joining the college under PIO/OCI/NRI/FS category are allotted accommodation in this hostel. All are double rooms furnished with two single cots with mattresses. Large study table, wardrobe, study chair and bookshelf are provided for each student. There is attached toilet for each room fitted with standard sanitary wares and designed to take care of proper hygiene. Rooms are provided with a kitchenette.

Table Tennis, Billiards and a modern Gymnasium are provided for recreation and physical fitness of inmates. Outdoor facility includes a shuttle badminton court and cricket pitch for net practice.  A home-theatre is provided for entertainment. Entire hostel is provided with Wi-Fi connectivity. Common study and reading room is provided for group studies and academic discussions. Standby generator for electric supply is provided to overcome the power cuts.

The foreign student advisor would attend the queries regarding the admission of students for B.Tech Degree Program and also attend to the grievances, discipline issues and counseling of Foreign Students.

  1. Students to participate in various competitions / national and International

The College encourages participation in various competitions at state and national level. Along with academics, students are encouraged to participate and involve in NSS, sports activities at State and National Level.  They are given guidance for preparation and permission to attend various national and international competitions. The needed financial support for registration and transportation facility is provided. Grace Mark is awarded for the students who participated in university level competitions as per University norms. PTA fund is given for students who participated in various national competitions such as competitions organised by Robotic clubs and National Association for Students of Architecture (NASA) etc. Duty leaves are sanctioned for those students participated in various competitions. Make up class for lost class hours are also arranged and retest for the series examination is also given on prior permission, if needed. Sports uniform is provided for college teams in order to participate in various competitions.

  1. Medical assistance to students: Health centre, health insurance etc

First aid treatment is provided for needy students immediately. First aid box is kept in all the laboratories. A Medical practitioner is appointed in the college for emergency medical care. Telephone numbers for medical emergency are posted in each laboratory. Travancore Medical College is located near to the college and six specialty hospitals with ambulance facility are available within 10km radius. Response time in calling ambulance from outside is 5-10 minutes. A vehicle facility is available in the campus to meet emergency situations.

  1. Organizing coaching classes for competitive exams

Each Department in the institution arranges coaching classes for competitive exams like GATE. Students get study materials through department library and central library. Workshops and training programmes are organised for soft skill development for the students. Training for aptitude and reasoning skills are organised for students through Career Guidance and Placement Unit (CGPU). Mock interviews and group discussions are regularly conducted for final and pre-final year students through CGPU.

  1. Skill development (Spoken English, Computer literacy etc.)

Institution provides special training for developing communication skills. Soft skill development classes are periodically organized by CGPU. CAD training is provided for students of Mechanical and Civil Engineering department. The language lab in the college helps to improve the communication skills of students. College has appointed two faculty for improving the communication skills of students. Students can use lab facilities beyond the working hours thereby improving their soft skills. Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Cell (IEDC) improves entrepreneurship skill of the students. A proposal for starting a Skill Acquisition Centre is in progress.

  1. Support for “slow learners”

The institution understands that there are students who require extra care and attention when compared to other students. Advisors identify such students based on their performance in the internal assessment tests and overall conduct in class and within the campus. An advisor regularly meets these students to help them to overcome their stumbling blocks. Each department organizes remedial classes for students who are struggling to cope with the demands of the course. Also, tutorial sessions for small group are provided for such students. Re-test and makeup tests are conducted for the slow learners. Regular motivation and counselling from the faculty and proctors also help the slow learners to overcome their barriers.

  1. Exposure of students to other institution of higher learning / corporate/ business house etc.

All the departments conduct educational tours and industrial visits to esteemed institutes of learning, industries, business houses etc. College arranges lectures/workshops by experts from the reputed institution like IITs, IISc, NITs and industries like ISRO, DRDO, CSIR etc. The institute arranges for industrial visits to the students to get first hand information about the industries and their technologies. QEEE lectures by eminent professors from IITs and IISc are arranged in the campus. NPTEL videos are accessible for students through central library. Students are encouraged to do their final year project in reputed industries. IEDC also brings up innovative ideas and exposure of its members to other institutions and the corporate world. IEDC is keen in providing the students with a glimpse of what they are going to face in the coming years and an insight into what to do. The students are brought in contact with eminent personalities from various Start Ups or business houses and hence they learn to network and get in touch.

IEEE also plays an important role in organizing workshops and seminars by inviting eminent personalities from other institutions like IITs and business houses.

  1. Publication of student magazines

The purpose of the magazine is to facilitate students to express their thoughts and ideas freely and also to develop and hone their literary, planning, management skills.  Financial support is given by college for publishing students’ magazine. Group of Faculty will be in charge of Editorial Board for assessing the quality of articles and monitoring the publication of technical and college magazine. Faculty will also be in charge of Editorial Board for department technical magazines like Potentia, Chemphoria etc.

The college magazine in 2012 named “NOORU” bagged the Malayala Manorama chief editors trophy for best magazine from among all colleges in the state of Kerala.
