The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers(IEEE)

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers(IEEE)is the world’s largest technical society, providing access to the latest technical information and research, global networking and career opportunities. It conducts conferences & seminars of technical interest, technical workshops,technical tours, meetings, quiz on a regular basis.

It has been 25 exuberant years since IEEE first entered the portals of TKMCE. The pedigree of TKMCE SB is enormous since its inauguration on 22nd November 1986 and it has always been on the right track in exploring and exploiting technology for the benefit of humanity. The voyage of TKMites in the ocean of IEEE has been eventful with many prestigious awards and rewards to their credit. Adding a golden feather to its cap, the Student Branch won the Region10 Exemplary Student Branch Award 2010 for the third best student branch in the Asia-Pacific Region. Retaining the crowned glory, we had the honour of hosting the Asia focused ISGT 2011 India, International Conference. Combining the guidance of the best of faculty members and the prowess of an active group of student members, we are sure to scale greater heights!


Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE)

The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) is India’s leading recognized professional society devoted to the advancement of Science and Technology  of Electronics, Telecommunication & IT. Founded in 1953, it serves more than 60,000 members through various centers, whose number is 65, spread all over India and abroad. The Institution provides leadership in Scientific and Technical areas of direct importance to the national development and economy. Government of India has recognized IETE as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) and also notified as an educational Institution of national eminence. The objectives of IETE focus on advancing electro-technology. The IETE conducts and sponsors technical meetings, conferences, symposia, and exhibitions all over India, publishes technical journals and provides continuing education as well as career advancement opportunities to its members


The Students’ Forum of IETE, TKMCE, Kollam was inaugurated on 18th August 2011 by Brig. M. K. Sasidharan (Retd), chairman, IETE Thiruvananthapuram. At present there are 205 students as members in the forum. The office bearers of the ISTE student’s forum are Dr.K.Gopakumar(Staff coordinator), Mr. Benvin Baiju(Chairman), Miss. Greeshma P M (Secretary) and Mr. Sajin M K(Treasurer).  The forum conducts different programme like workshop on robotics, matlab etc., talk on embedded systems, VLSI design etc., lab practice for S3 students, completion on quiz, circuit design and debugging etc. Apart from all these, the forum motives students and encourage them to participate in various national programmes organizedbt the institutions within and outside the state.

I S T E Chapter

The Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) is a national, professional, non-profit making society registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860.

The major objectives of ISTE are:

  • providing quality training programmes to teachers and administrators of technical institutions to update their knowledge and skills in their fields of activity.
  • to assist and contribute in the production and development of top quality professional engineers and technicians needed by the industry and other organisations.
  • providing guidance and training to students to develop better learning skills and personality.

ISTE Students’ Chapter assists and contributes in the production and development of top quality professional engineers and technicians needed by the industry and other organizations and also provides guidance and training to students to develop better learning skills and personality.

The Students Chapter of ISTE was started in the college in 1998 with the objective of promoting interaction within the student community and enhancing their general skills. To fulfill these objectives the Chapter organizes various programmes and competitions at a regular basis in the college.

Some of the activities of the Chapter are:

  1. Conducting talks/seminars/ workshops/ conferences on topics of relevance to technical education
  2. Conducting industrial visits
  3. Conducting review and evaluation of project proposals
  4. Conducting debates/group discussions/quiz etc.

In addition, students organize and actively participate in common forums involving various chapters at different levels.

Society of Student Architects (SSA) is a forum of Architecture students and its chapter in the college started in the year 1985.  It is an extension of the National Association of the students of Architecture (NASA), which is the largest non-political student body in India. The association organizes guest lectures and seminars related to Architecture under the guidance of an expert faculty, from the department of Architecture.

I I C E Student’s Chapter

A wing of the student’s chapter of Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IICE) is functioning in our college under the guidance of Chemical Engineering Department. All chemical engineering students are eligible for membership. Objectives of IICES Chapter is to promote interaction between students and practicing engineers, to promote the ability of the students in seminar presentation, group discussion, debate, quiz etc and to work for better placement of Chemical Engineering graduates.

Objectives :

  • To promote interaction between students and practicing Engineers.
  • To promote the ability of the students in seminar presentation, group discussion, debate, quiz etc.
  • To work for better placement of Chemical Engineering graduates


Computer Society of India (CSI) has been instrumental in guiding the Indian IT industry down the right path during its formative years. Today, the CSI has 66 chapters all over India, 381 student branches, and more than 40000 members including India’s most famous IT industry leaders, brilliant scientists and dedicated academicians. T K M College of Engineering has a student branch   of CSI with more than one hundred members.  Our students bagged the best student award, instituted by the CSI Trivandrum Chapter, several times.

Under the auspices CSI TKM Engineering College student branch, we  organize seminars and  invited lectures, and conduct various contests  for students.


A unit of Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst the Youth (SPIC MACAY) was started functioning from the year 2009 onwards. SPIC MACAY seeks to conserve and promote an awareness of the rich and heterogeneous cultural heritage of India amongst the youth through focus on the classical arts, with their attendant legends, rituals, mythology and philosophy, and to facilitate an awareness of their deeper and subtler values. SPIC MACAY unit of the TKM College of Engineering organizes various concerts and lecture demonstrations for the same.
