TKM Trust

The TKM College Trust was founded in 1956 by Late Janab Thangal Kunju Musaliar, which marked an epoch making event in the educational history of Kerala in general and the Travancore area in particular. Thangal Kunju Musaliar was a great visionary, educationist, reformer, industrialist and above all a philanthropist who walked ahead of his time.

His dogged perseverance and hard work coupled with his strength of character helped him rose to the pinnacle of fame from the humble beginnings. He became the doyen of cashew industry and thereby started the empowerment of workers especially women folk as he had employed large number of women employees in his cashew factories and he was considered to be the largest single employer in the world as indicated in the US Business Magazine FORTUNE.

He was very much concerned about the various sections of the society who were educationally and culturally backward in general and particularly the members of the Muslim community who were backward in education and without proper and adequate facilities for education. Though he had only primary education he was convinced of the fact that education is an essential input for any development and no progress can be achieved without proper and quality education. This long cherished dream was fulfilled in the establishment of the TKM College of Engineering in the year 1958.

This was the first Engineering College in the Private Sector in the State. The foundation stone was laid on February 3, 1956 by His Excellency Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India. The College was formally inaugurated by Prof. Humayun Kabir, the then Union Minister for Scientific Research and Cultural Affairs on July 3, 1958.

The College has been identified as a Centre of Consultancy by a good number of industrial and public service units under the State and Central Governments. Long years of experience in the field of technical education enabled the Management to provide excellent infrastructural facilities and sophisticated laboratory equipments and network facilities to the College to have an attractive ambience. It is a proud privilege that thousands of engineers who passed out through the portals of T.K.M. College of Engineering are now in the covetable positions in India and abroad.

The aim and objectives of the TKM College Trust is to establish educational institutions to serve the community and enhance the quality of life. It is in furtherance of the objectives, the Trust has established many other institutions to impart quality education.
