The TKM Civil Engineering Department which took genesis in 1958 is commended as one of the best Civil engineering Departments in Kerala. The department produces the finest graduates in the state who are highly sought out by the professional community, and offers B.Tech programme which has been accredited by the NBA for 6 years (2016-’17, 2017-’18, 2018-’19, 2019-‘20, 2020-’21, 2021-’22) and M Tech programme for 2 years (2017-’18, 2018-’19). The department is one of the largest in the college with faculty and supporting staff above 50.The Alumni of the department have been well-placed in several prestigious institutions both inside and outside the country.
The department has demonstrated credible academic excellence and many a times the students of the department bagged the first rank in the University of Kerala. Student projects are differentiated into socially relevant, research oriented and academically oriented projects. The department has well equipped labs in all disciplines which cater to the need of the undergraduate and post graduate students.The department has a very efficient advisory system which caters to maintaining the affinity of teacher-parent-student relationship. The department is also a recognized QIP centre of the AICTE for Ph. D. program as well as for the training of faculty from other engineering colleges.
There is interaction of the department with several industries like The Ramco Cements Limited, The Kerala Minerals and Metals Limited, Nirmithi Kendra, K.Lekhmanan & Co., and Steel Industries Kerala Ltd., whose industry personnel gives guest lectures and in association with whom student internships are provided for field experience and training. The Department which is an approved Research Centre of the University of Kerala has always been in the forefront in taking up R&D initiatives and Industrial Consultancy assignments and serves as an authorized testing and consultancy centre for industries and the general public. The major funding agencies for the research and development activities conducted by the department are the AICTE, TEQIP, the Institution of Engineers (India), the Kerala State Council for Science and Technology, and the Centre for Engineering Research and Development.

B.Tech- Civil Engineering Programme of our college is affiliated to University of Kerala/APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University.
Candidates with a pass in the Plus – Two Examination of Kerala Higher Secondary Board or its equivalent with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optional subjects or any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto, securing a minimum of 50% marks in Mathematics and 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together are eligible for admission.
Admission is made by a selection committee constituted by the Government of Kerala
Reservation to SC,ST and other communities are available as per rules and regulations of the Government from time to time.
15% of the seats are reserved under Management quota . Those who want to get admission under the Management quota should apply to the management and qualify the Engineering entrance examination conducted by Commissioner of Entrance Examination; Government of Kerala
Duration of the Course:
The programme is conducted in eight semesters.
MTech- Structural Engineering and Construction Management Programme of our college is affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University.
A pass in the B.Tech Degree in Civil Engineering with 60% of marks with usual concessions to SC/ST and other eligible communities as per Government rules from time to time
Minimum marks for M.Tech admission for AMIE candidates shall be 55% of the aggregate of Section B of the respective examination
They should have a minimum of three years of professional experience in the field and a valid GATE score in the respective branch
Duration of the Course:
The programme is conducted in four semesters.
The Department has a well-established library with a reading room which is amply used by the staff and students. The library is equipped with a good number of text books. The records of industrial training reports, university question papers, IS Codes, reports of seminars and projects are kept in the library and made accessible to students. A good collection of books are contributed by the alumni of our department. Library is accessible for students and faculty members during the working hours of the College. Books are issued to the faculty and students of the Department.
