A fully automated modern Library & Information Centre (LIC), established with the inception of the college in 1958 is on its way to becoming an outstanding learning resource centre catering to the ever growing and uncompromising information and intellectual requirements of the students, faculty and researchers. A balanced program on the development of the collection of hard copy, audio/video, CD-ROM and other electronic forms of documents is being followed. The LIC has one of the finest collections of latest Engineering and management publications. It plays an important role in the provision of information to the academic community in the TKM College of Engineering. It has a collection of more than seventy five thousand books and subscribes to more than one hundred periodical and 10 Newspapers. Library follows the Anglo American cataloguing Rules II (with slight modifications) for Cataloguing and Dewey Decimal Scheme of Classification for the classification of books. Owing to the developments in IT/Internet and the recent upsurge of Digital Information resources/services, there is a heavy demand from the users of digital Library Services. With a view to address the above, TKMCE has launched a digital library where the academic community can approach for satisfying their knowledge requirements.

Technical Sections

This section deals with the procurement of books and other documents such as Print Journals, e-journals CDs etc. An amount of approximately Rs. 25, 00,000.00 is spent every year on procurement of various kinds of documents. All the documents are procured on the basis of recommendations received from Heads of the Departments.This section is responsible for the technical process of the documents like Classification, Cataloguing and indexing.The following Standards are used for the works performed in the Section:Cataloguing : Anglo American cataloguing Rules II (with slight modifications)Classification : Dewey Decimal Scheme of Classification Subject Headings : Library of Congress Subject Headings

Maintenance Section

This section arranges and maintains the documents in the classified sequence and provides facilities for referring the documents within the section. Open Access system is followed.

Circulation Section

This section performs the job of issue and return of documents, renewal of loan period, fine collection for delayed return of books and membership management functions. It is possible to reserve a book which is on loan from this section.

Reference Section

This section maintains a good collection of reference sources that includes Encyclopedias, Handbooks, Dictionaries, Reports, Theses, Dissertations, maps, Text books and costly subject books etc.

Periodicals Section

The periodicals collection forms a major reading and reference source for the College campus. It subscribes to 104 journals in different disciplines a good number of journals received gratis. In addition a good number of popular magazines are also subscribed.

SC/ST Book Bank

In this book bank we have a very good collection of the latest text books purchased under the SC/ST Book Bank scheme from the Govt. of Kerala. Book bank facility is only available to students belonging to SC/ST community.

Binding Section

Perhaps TKM Engineering College Library is the only College Library in Kerala with a full fledged book binding unit of its own. As and when the books are damaged it is taken out from the sections and rebound. Journals received in the Library are bound when their volume is completed.

Digital Library

The TKM College of Engineering Library has the distinction of being the fully automated College Library in the state of Kerala. All the processes and services are carried out using computers. SOUL (Software for University Libraries) is the software used in the library for its automated activities. Internet services are provided as a part of this section. This Section also provides many information services like New additions alert service, Compilation of Bibliographies, sending e-mail alerts to the newsgroup created from the members etc. Library is a member of AICTE-INDEST consortium. Under this scheme the following e-resources are available. IEEE All Society Periodicals Package Science Direct (Elsevier -Computer Science and Engineering package).ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineering) e-Journals.ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineering) e-books. Springer (Springer Journals on Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering)ASTM (Standards and Engineering Digital Library)EBSCO(Art and Architecture Package)GREENR (Gale Cengage Package on Environment and Architecture)J-Gate Mc Graw Hill E-Books (Access Engineering Library) The Library is also a member of DELNET. Members can access all the online databases of DELNET with the assigned user name and password (Available with Librarian).In addition a good number of Publishers are allowing access to their e-journals due to the purchase of their print journals.


Book Lending Services

Book lending service is provided to all the members of the library. A student member is entitled to get five books and PG students and Research Scholars can avail 10 books at a time . A teaching staff member is entitled to get 10 books at a time and a non teaching staff member can avail 6 books at a time.

Reference Services

The library maintains a good Reference Collection. It includes valuable reference sources like Encyclopedias, Handbooks, Multilingual dictionaries, Theses, Dissertations, Text books etc. The question papers of the examinations conducted by the university in previous years and Syllabi of courses conducted by the University are also made available in this section.

Internet Services

Browsing facility is available in the Library for staff and students free of cost. New Additions List A list of new books added to the library collection is brought out regularly and sent to all the teaching departments of the university. E-mail alert E-mail alerts are sent to the users about latest events and developments relating to library.

Reprographic Services

The Library provides photocopying facilities allowed within the copyright rules. Question papers of earlier years University examination and Syllabus of various courses offered by the University can also be photocopied. An amount of one rupee per page is charged for the facility.


Membership can be obtained by applying in the prescribed application form available in the Circulation Section of the Library on payment of Rs. 50/- as fee for Library membership and College Identity card. Barcode of the readers are mounted on the College Identity card, so that it can be used for twin purposes. Application should be submitted to the Circulation Section after obtaining the Recommendation of the concerned Head of the Department.

A Non Liability Certificate is to be obtained by the students from the College Librarian before the commencement of their University examinations. Staff members, both teaching and non-teaching, are required to obtain the Certificate before their leaving the institution or before their retirement from the service which ever is earlier.

Faculty members working in the teaching departments of the College are given membership in this category

Non-Teaching Staff of the College

All categories of non teaching staff in the various offices of the College are given membership under this category

Students of the sister institutes under TKM Trust

Students and Teachers in various colleges under the TKM trust can apply under this category. They have to obtain the recommendation of the Principal of their respective college and also from the Principal of the TKM College of Engineering. Clearance Certificate before their examinations should be strictly insisted to those students by the principal.
