Computer Science & Engineering


The Department of Computer Science & Engineering established in the year 1984 was the first CSE department introduced in Kerala. For the last three decades, the department has been imparting a state-of the-art education, training and research in the field of computer science and allied areas and regularly producing efficient and outstanding professionals. The department offers B.Tech and M.Tech programme with excellent infrastructure and well qualified and experienced faculty.

The faculty members of the department have been guiding research works and are representing different academic bodies like Board of Studies (Engineering UG & PG), Academic Council, Faculty of Engineering etc. of Kerala University. The department has been taking initiative for the preparation and revision of scheme and syllabus for the B.Tech. and M.Tech degree courses in Computer Science & Engineering and Information Technology of Kerala University. During the past years the department has bagged top ranks in Kerala University very often.  Most of the students are getting placements and internship opportunities in reputed companies. Many of our alumni have reached positions of eminence in academic and research institutions, industries, business and also as entrepreneurs.

We are working with an objective to contribute our part to develop India as a Super Power in the area of Computer Science and Information Technology by imparting knowledge of an international standard to young Engineers and Computer Scientists. The UG –Programme of the Department is accredited by NBA for 3 years in 2016

1. B.Tech – Computer Science & Engineering

B.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering Programme of our college is affiliated to University of Kerala/APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University.

Admission Eligibility

Candidates with a pass in the Plus – Two Examination of Kerala Higher Secondary Board or its equivalent with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optional subjects or any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto, securing a minimum of 50% marks in Mathematics and 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together are eligible for admission.

Admission is made by a selection committee constituted by the Government of Kerala

Reservation to SC,ST and other communities are available as per rules and regulations of the Government from time to time

15% of the seats are reserved under Management quota . Those who want to get admission under the Management quota should apply to the management and qualify the Engineering entrance examination conducted by Commissioner of Entrance Examination; Government of Kerala.

Duration of the Course:

The programme is conducted in eight semesters.

2. M.Tech – Computer Science & Engineering

M.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering Programme of our college is affiliated to University of Kerala/APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University.

Admission Eligibility

60 % marks for BE/B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering or BE/B.Tech in Information Technology. Mark relaxation will be given for SC/ST students as per Govt. Norms.

Minimum marks for M.Tech admission for AMIE be 55% of the aggregate of Section B of the respective examination

Duration of the Course:

The programme is conducted in four semesters.



The Department has a well-established library with a reading room which is amply used by the staff and students. The library is equipped with a good number of text books and reference books in Computer Science and IT fields. The records of industrial training reports, university question papers, reports of seminars and projects are kept in the library and made accessible to students. The students can borrow books and have access to Springer, Science Direct, IEEE digital libraries, e-books of Pearson and McGraw Hill and more than thousands of computer science online journals from the department library.

Computing Laboratory


This lab is equipped with a central server and more than 60 computing nodes working in both Windows and Linux platforms with the most advanced configurations. Computing Laboratory facilities are utilized for the conductance of basic programming course, object oriented programming, Data Structures and algorithm development etc.


Networking Laboratory


This lab has Dell T110 II server, HP proliant ML350e Gen8 Server and IBM e server series225 with more than 60 workstations with almost all the Microsoft software’s and tools  provided under MS Campus agreement package, Oracle 11g, Matlab 2013b and other latest software packages. This lab also has routers, switches, wireless LAN cards and other networking devices to enable students to do their network projects on real world problems.

 Computer hardware related three main courses are conducted in this lab. Digital trainer kits, CROs, Function generators and other basic equipments are provided for digital circuit designing. Micro processor and micro controller kits with peripheral IC interfacing cards and devices and micro processor simulation softwares are facilitated for micro processor interfacing lab experiments. Computer Hardware and Interfacing lab includes computer assembling, computer hardware familiarization and PC interfacing exercises performed with the help of different PCI interface cards, thermistors, thermo couples, LVDT, load cells, pressure and temperature sensors etc. provided in this lab. This lab has several communication kits also.

Image Processing Research lab


The well equipped Image Processing Research Lab consists of HP workstation with additional hardware such as Basler camera for image acquisition with an experimental setup include camera stand, Light source etc ,The NI 1742 Smart Camera, powered by a 533 MHz PowerPC processor, is a real-time target for machine vision. The high-quality Sony CCD image sensor acquires monochrome VGA (640 x 480).

Resolution images at 60 frames per second,  Conveyor belt system –can used for inspection of objects such as coin, pencils, vegetables etc, Thumb Scanner for biometric projects , Microscopic Camera for the inspection of small objects.

Software facilities includes NI Vision Builder for Automated Inspection (AI) (an easy-to-use stand-alone programming environment for creating full visual inspection applications such as Ring inspection, Label inspection and connector inspection), MATLAB 2012 version, Pylon software for basler camera, and Aphelion Software for image analysis, processing etc.

ELECTION’15 KOLLAMA specially designed app, to help the polling officers with election 2015 for the Kollam , district.

Designed to make life for the Polling officers relatively easier, students of computer science

department of TKM college have developed an app that helps them to access information in an

easy and efficient way. Praised by many government officials, including the District Collector

of Kollam, the app provides a Contacts button which on clicking shows the name, designation and

other relevant details of all government officials associated with the election process. In addition to

this, there is also an option for viewing the list of all polling stations and wards. As feature to address the  District collector of Kollam is also included.

KTULive – Android Application

“KTULive is a very responsive and up-to-date application for the students in various colleges across Kerala, pursuing engineering courses, to keep themselves updated with resources, syllabus, alerts and much more from their respective universities. That’s not all, the app also features video lectures, tutorials and other educational aids which would be helpful for the students during their engineering life. The app also provides the details of the various scholarships that engineering students can avail during their course. Computer Science and Engineering Association

Introduction to Computer Hardware


The Association of Computer Science and Engineering kick started its activities for the academic year 2016-’17 with an informal session for the students of the department, by the Association Secretary, for familiarising with computer hardware and the interior of the laptops. The session was organised to provide a general awareness to the students on the basics of the design and architecture of the computer.

The session was conducted on 5th September 2016 at 4:30pm in room number 219 and turned out to be lively and interactive sessions with the active participation of the students, who also initiated discussions on topic. At the end of the session, students raised their opinions regarding the topics they want to have discussions on, in the future activities.


css2On 22nd September 2016, the Computer Science Association conducted a session on ‘Introduction to HTML and CSS’ at 4:30pm in room number 219. The session was handled by the few students of the department who have got hands-on experience on the topic. The motive was to introduce the students to the field of web development and to motivate them to work in the area. The initial session rendered the basics which are necessary for the beginners. Considering the interest shown by the participants, a second session was conducted.

On 23rd September 2016, the session was continued, taking the students gradually to the next step in web development. Later on, students discussed in groups and they triggered various discussions complementing the session. It was very clear that the students were going to take greater leaps and were left free to explore the area. The association planned that further sessions would be conducted, after the students have done a bit of exploration themselves.

CodePad – Online Coding Competition


To introduce the students to the world of competitive programming, the Association of Computer Science conducted an Online Coding Competition for the students of the department, with the platform provided by CodeChef. The competition was conducted to induce a sense of responsibility in the students towards their academics and to make them understand the importance of being an ‘employable’ engineer at the end of their B.Tech curriculum.

The Competition was held from 10/10/16 to 16/10/16 through the platform provided by CodeChef. The questions were chosen from the miscellaneous programming questions, which are usually posed to the students, in the placement drives during the final year. There was active participation from the students of the department and Parth Suresh from the third semester grabbed the first prize in the competition. The association has analysed the performance of the students and has planned to take steps to improve the technical quality of the students.

Coding Competition for Third years


The Association of Computer Science and Engineering, believes that the B.Tech curriculum should be utilized well, in forming an employable batch of engineers each year. This process is a gradual one and has to be done with great care. Taking into account the placement activities, the final year students shared their experiences with the pre-final year students, giving them tips on how to begin with their preparation and the need to start preparing in the pre-final year.

The Association conducted a coding competition, on 17-10-2016, exclusively for the pre-final year students for giving them a chance for self-assessment. The students were given guidance by the final years and the faculty in helping them to start off with their preparations. The association has planned to conduct similar programmes in the future to maintain the momentum of the students’ preparations.
