Back to Home-TKMCE Project

Back to Home-TKMCE Project for flood hit areas of Kerala.

We, the students, alumni, parents and teachers of TKMCE are coming up with an initiative ‘ Back to Home’ to rebuild flood engulfed houses.

The students and faculty of the Departments of Architecture, Civil Engineering and TKM School of Architecture have collectively brought out innovative and economically feasible house designs capable of overcoming natural calamities – the testimony of a synergy developed among the most talented in our fraternity. The goal is to construct houses of about 550 square feet for a cost of around 6 lakhs.  No doubt, sustainability, economic viability and time constraints will be taken care using precast reinforced units. In first phase, the plan is to build 5 such houses for the most deserving among the victims. To begin with, we have identified 2 sites at Munroethuruthu, a flood hit village of Kollam.

Its major features include

  • Five ready to use modern cost effective houses. Each costs Rs 6 lakhs.
  • One house for Munroe Island in the first phase
  • One house at Perur
