Solar-powered Grid-connected Charging Station Inaugurated at Chinnakkada


First of its kind in Kerala, a 6.6kW solar plant has been installed on the rooftop of the Clock Tower building of Kollam Corporation. The grid powers a charging station capable of supplying power to three vehicles in parallel, preferably e-autos and e-bikes. No sharp variation is expected to occur in the grid voltage. The Department of Environment and Climate Change, Government of Kerala had allotted a project fund of Rs. 6.74 lakh for the project entitled ‘Grid Connected Solar Powered Electric Vehicle Charging Station’ to the project team comprising Dr. Sheeba. R., Dr. Sheik Muhammed. S., Mr. Abhiraj. P. and Mr. Varun. S. Prakash of Electrical Engineering Department, TKM College of Engineering, Kollam. The Solar Energy Electric Vehicle Charging System was formally inaugurated by Kollam Mayor Ms. Prasanna Earnest on 13th January 2022. Mr. Suneel Pamidi IFS, the Director of Environment and Climate Change delivered the keynote address. Kollam Madhu, Dy. Mayor presided over the programme and Dr. Sheeba R, principal investigator presented the report. Dr. Bijuna Kunju, Head of Electrical Engineering department, TKMCE and other standing committee chairpersons of Kollam Corporation offered their felicitations.
