Free and open-source software (FOSS) cell at TKM, is a community of passionate students and faculties, who have come together for the cause of promoting and contributing to Free and Open Source Software. The cell strives to bring more student developers into the open-source community and thereby leading to FOSS promotion within the institution. This cell was established under the Department of Computer Science & Engineering in the year 2016.

Objectives

To expose students to the FOSS environment and facilitate them to use open software/ hardware.

To promote Research & Development activities on FOSS.

To explore various Open Source Certifications and Outreach Programmes.

To collaborate with and contribute to various open source communities and societies.

FOSS Cell, Department of Computer Science & Engineering jointly with CGPU organised a two day workshop entitled “IBM OpenPOWER and Artificial Intelligence”. The workshop was intended to provide a day of learning Artificial Intelligence and gathered the latest insights from pioneers in the industry and the hall was filled with 150 student participants along with faculties of TKM College of Engineering.The session was handled by Mr.Ganesan Narayanasamy, (IBM, Open Power leader and Client Care Manager at IBM, New York) and Dr.Jayakumar Singaram (CTO at Object Automation.)



Organised by ICFOSS and iNCAETEK on 21-10-2019. Seminar was organized for Civil, Mechanical and BArch Students




An MoU is signed between TKMCE and ICFOSS. TKM College Of Engineering is selected to host the ICFOSS LoRaWAN ecosystem at Kollam district of Kerala.



An orientation programme for freshers to gain a better understanding about FOSS and its possibilities. This was followed by a hands-on workshop on Git & GitHub the next day.





Training for Red Hat Certified System Administrator(RHCSA) Certification provided by IPSR solutions at affordable cost to interested students as part of the memorandum signed by the college with Red Hat. The training was held virtually (every Thursday and Saturday 4.00 - 5.00 pm over 12 weeks starting from October) helped students to gain core system administration skills required in Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments.
