It is observed that nearly 71% of companies in the world offer full-time jobs to
students interning with them. This is because the practical experience of students
is more significant to the corporates than their degrees and other qualifications.
Another factor that gives an extra boost to your resume after an internship is the
global exposure during the experience. Hence, we have compiled all necessary
information regarding international internships for B.Tech students in India. Read
on to learn about the best cities for internships in 2024 and more.
International internships for students pursuing engineering are great
opportunities for field testing their theoretical knowledge. Students put their
knowledge to practice in the real world as they work on projects. These projects
could serve different objectives based on their branch of engineering. Thus,
international internships can successfully simulate professional work
environments for students.
However, these internships are not only opportunities for practicing professional
skills. They can also help students assess their interests, capabilities, and work
styles. Further, mention of an international internship for b.tech students in their
resume shows to their potential employer that they have the global exposure to
thrive in the competitive field.
Shanghai, a land of tech and innovation, is a good destination for international internships, mainly for students of civil engineering because of its rapid infrastructure development. Further, students can leverage the networking opportunities that the global city presents to meet and learn from industry experts worldwide.
Beijing is a city where engineering students can do an international internship for B.Tech students to gain work experience in a highly competitive work environment. Some international internships for students of engineering also offer facilities for transportation, housing, and social activities to help students make the most of the experience.
The presence of technology leaders such as Hyundai, LG, and Samsung makes Seoul, South Korea one of the best locations for international internships for students pursuing engineering. Doing an international internship for B.Tech students, also offers an opportunity to learn Korean which can benefit you immensely in the long run with salary hikes, and a competitive edge in the market.
Tokyo in Japan is one of the safest cities for doing international internships for students of engineering. The city also has several specialized fields that need the service of foreign engineers. These fields range from software development to automotive engineering and manufacturing to renewable energy. The city is also a good location for interns to widen their networks.
London is a land of various career prospects for students of engineering. It is the wide presence of both startups and established firms that make London one of the best options among locations for international internships for students in India. TKM College of Engineering (TKMCE) is a government-aided engineering
college offering B.Tech degrees in eight branches and an undergraduate degree
in architecture. The college also offers postgraduate programs in computer
application and different specializations in engineering. Recently, our college
collaborated with Tokyo Metropolitan University (TMU) in Japan for a project on
distribution of microplastics by hydrodynamics of the Ashtamudi estuary.
Tokyo Metropolitan Grant funded the project in which salinity intrusion and tidal
variations in the Ashtamudi estuary were also monitored using sensors
sponsored by TMU. 15 of our undergraduate civil engineering students attended
the internship. TKMCE and TMU jointly supervised their final-year thesis. The
students also presented their papers at the 21st annual meeting of AOGS and
the 40th IAHR World Congress.
Further, TMU fully funded a two-week visit by our faculty, Dr. Priya K.L., during
which she discussed collaborations between the two educational institutions. The
visit also resulted in her interactions with the Dean and President of TMU and
giving lectures and research advice. Following the internship, her study on the
settlement of microplastics in the partially mixed environment of the estuarine
was also honored with UK-based Estuarine and Coastal Science Association’s
Charles Boyden Award.
International internships aligning with your career goals not only help you attain practical experience and boost your resume but also let you explore a new culture. Taking the opportunity with an open mind and curiosity will benefit you by shaping you into a professional with ample experience and exposure in the industry.
